I’ll get straight to the point. Why should anyone else believe in something as personal, emotional, and almost magical as their own music career more than themselves? Some invest in stocks, gold, bitcoins, LEGO bricks, comics, spirits, stamps, renewable energies, NFTs, properties somewhere in the galaxy, and so on… the list is long and keeps growing. But you can also invest in your own skills: training in musical abilities, distribution and organization, marketing, artistic development – all without waiting periods or random influences, so without hoping to be ‘discovered’. Because that’s essentially like taking out a loan, as if one were bringing investors into a project. It may sound flattering, but it also comes with corresponding obligations, including how to proceed when artists don’t fulfil their agreements. Yes, taking responsibility for oneself requires effort, but it also brings more room for decision-making and opportunities for shaping – not just in music. That’s why I’m always surprised when this view is shared for everything else but not for this industry or doesn’t seem understandable. Anyone who wants to pursue a specific activity seriously and results-oriented should ideally have some idea of how it works and what processes are involved, of course, in line with progress and the spirit of the times. What was it again? You can’t get something from nothing. And if you have neither knowledge nor control, you can’t steer anything either. I hope these thoughts could inspire you a bit. Would you rather be discovered or are you already building something yourself? I would be happy to hear from you or read your thoughts.
PS. Do you also like music so much? Browse through the gift idea collections “INSPIRE” and “SHOW TIME”, by clicking on the titles. There are also matching greeting cards that you can print out yourself. Click here for the free download. Music is a lifestyle!
